Associate Professor

Shabir A. Parah received an M. Phil. and Ph.D. Degrees in Electronics, from the University of Kashmir in 2010 and 2013, respectively. He was awarded a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) by the University Grants Commission in 2008 and subsequently worked as a UGC-Junior Research Fellow from January 2009 to May 2010. In May 2010, he joined as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Technology, University of Kashmir. At present, he is working as an Associate Professor and leading the Signal Processing and Communication Engineering (SPACE) Research group at the Department of Electronics and Inst. Technology. His research interests include, Multimedia security, Medical Image Processing, e-healthcare, Information Security, and Spintronics. He is the author of more than 200 publications in International and National journals/conferences. Besides, he has authored more than 27 book chapters published by reputed publishing houses like Elsevier and Springer. He is a member of several professional societies like IEEE, IETE, EAI, etc.. He is serving as a reviewer for many International and National scientific journals in Electronics and communication engineering. He has received eight paper Awards at various IEEE International Conferences to date. He has received the Outstanding Researcher Award from the University of Kashmir in 2022. He figured in World top 2% researchers in the field of Image Processing and Artificial Intelligence for five consecutive years, 2020 to 2024. He also figured in the world top 0.2% researchers in 2024, in the field of Multimedia signal processing as per ScholarGPS, California USA.  He was declared the winner of the best technical paper award at INDICON 2024, held in IIT Kharagpur. He received the Best Researcher Award at ICCIC International Conference held in Delhi in January 2025. He is a certified Innovation Ambassador from the Ministry of Education, Government of India, "Mentor of Change " under  NITI Aayog's Atal Innovation Mission.
