Dr. Farooq Ahmad Khanday (M’15, SM’19) received his M.Sc. (Gold Medalist), M. Phil., and Ph.D. degrees in Electronics from the University of Kashmir in 2004, 2010, and 2013, respectively. He began his academic career as a contractual Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Technology, University of Kashmir (2005–2009). In 2009, he joined the Department of Higher Education, J&K, and served at the Department of Electronics and Vocational Studies, Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Srinagar. He rejoined the University of Kashmir in May 2010, where he served as Assistant Professor until May 2022. He currently holds the position of Associate Professor in the same department.
Dr. Khanday's research interests span Neuromorphic Computing, Fractional-Order Circuits, Low-Power Circuit Design, Nanoelectronics, and Stochastic Computing. He has authored or co-authored over 145 peer-reviewed publications in reputed international and national journals and conferences, including IEEE Transactions. His scholarly contributions include Fourteen (15) book chapters, an authored book titled "Nanoscale Electronic Devices and Their Applications" (CRC Press, Taylor & Francis), and the editing of four books: one on Neuromorphic Computing and three on Fractional-Order Systems (Elsevier).
He holds two patents and is featured in Stanford University's list of the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists. According to ScholarGPS (California, USA), he ranks among the top 0.25% researchers globally in the field of Nanoelectronic Devices for 2024.
Dr. Khanday has served as a Management Committee (MC) Observer for the COST Action CA15225 (European Union) on Fractional-Order Systems and was awarded the INSA Visiting Scientist Fellowship (2020–21) by Indian National Science Academy (INSA). He also serves as an evaluator for COST Action projects of the European Union.
He is a Senior Member of IEEE, an Editor for PLOS ONE, and a regular reviewer for leading scientific journals from IEEE, Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, IOPScience, and others. His mentorship includes the successful supervision of 8 Ph.D., 1 M. Phil., and 37 M. Tech. dissertations. Currently, he supervises 5 Ph.D. and 5 M.Tech. scholars.
Dr. Khanday has completed three major research projects funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of INDIA to the tune of Rs. ~67 Lacs. These projects have led to the establishment of state-of-the-art research infrastructure in the Integrated Circuit and Nanoelectronics (IC-Nano) Laboratory under his leadership.
